Gijs Waterschoot (Soest (DE), 1990) and Rien Schellemans (Bruges (BE), 1994) met during their studies (In Situ³ and Sculpture respectively) at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. In 2017 they started working together spontaneously.
The output of their shared practice can be seen as a documentation of friendship. Since March 2020 Gijs has been living and working on the island of Syros, Greece. Rien recently moved to the vegetable region around Mechelen, Belgium. Up until today the two often operate as an artist duo and continue to explore their collaboration over a distance of some 3000 km. They do not necessarily work in or from the studio as a defined working spaceFor the time being they share their studios in the form of mail orders, WeTransfers and long Skype calls. Their field of work encompasses an ever-expanding register that is not limited to the visual and focuses more and more on written and spoken word, sound, movement and the interaction between them and their environment.
