The Chambord staircase proposes a continuous route through the exhibition spaces, alternating between gallery and upper gallery.
Working with a cylindrical shell around the staircase allows variations from show to show.
This intervention at the gallery refers more or less directly to Office / Baraques, a project Tirtiaux realised in 2013 at the premisses of Lokaal 01 in Antwerp.
This sculpture resulted directly from the main characteristics of the exhibition space -a garage pit and skylight. Turning around the volume that connects these two elements, the viewer progressively discovered a staircase that allowed one to look upon the roof of the building. The chaotic appearance of the back of the houses, typical of Belgian urban structures, contrasted drastically with the empty exhibition space.
The title refers to Office Baroque, Gordon Matta-Clark‘s iconic work realised in Antwerp in 1977.
