The Stage Before the Audience.

Did a stage ever exist before there was an audience? Or was the audience, historically speaking, there before the stage?

This inversion of what seems self-evident poses an impossible question and opens up new perspectives. Perhaps such a stage never existed—a theater without spectators is, after all, a paradox. Yet, precisely this thought creates a space for imagination.

Is a stage without an audience an abstract concept, an architectural space, a sculptural form, or a literary construct? By reversing and re-examining these ideas, new possibilities and interpretations emerge.

For this exhibition, Antoine Waterkeyn enters into dialogue with Olaf Holzapfel, Frank JMA Casteleyn, Suchan Kinoshita, Julla Kroner, Devrim Lingnau, Rebecca Quix, Jana Rippmann, Helmut Stallaerts, Mitja Tušek, Sebastian Volz.
