In recent decades, the Flemish Community has invested in the acquisition of contemporary artworks by both local and international artists, resulting in the development of an impressive art collection over the years. However, the majority of this collection is housed behind closed museum doors, with only a fraction of it being exhibited in Flemish museums.
The exhibition 'AANWINST' introduces you to a selection of contemporary artworks that have been added to this collection over the past five years.
Simultaneously with the exhibition, you can discover the seven-part documentary series 'AANWINST' on VRT MAX. Each episode focuses on one artist, providing an intimate insight into their life, work, and artistic vision. 'AANWINST' offers a profound exploration of various societal themes such as colonialism, identity, and activism through the artworks featured in the exhibition.
About the exhibition:
7 artists, 14 works. Each artist selected, in addition to their own work, another piece from the Flemish collection by a different artist.
